Every year, varsity theater seniors get to change roles from actor or tech crew to director.

Each director chose their show for different reasons.

“Because most senior directed shows have a tendency to be really dark and dramatic, we wanted to change that and do something fun,” senior Sydney Olejniczak, a director of “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon,” said. “It’s certainly a very funny show.”

Most of the seniors have been in theater for all four years of high school, so it is a big difference to be the director for once.

“I’m really excited to do it because I’m in tech theater, so I get to a lot with the tech because it is my show,” senior Mya Taylor, a director of “Constellations,” said.

The act of directing requires responsibility for the seniors.

“I love to direct, and I’m really excited to be doing this,” Olejniczak said. “We do it all- the costumes, the set, the lighting, the sound. It’s cool to have that kind of responsibility and be able to do everything.”

To prepare, the seniors and actors rehearse after school.

“We’re trying to piece things together as it goes,” senior Genesis Flores, a director of “Bad Auditions,” said. “We’re having the actors memorize their lines now, we’re blocking, we’re getting costumes together, just directing in general.”

The shows will be on May 17 at 7.

“We have a lot of shows this year and their all amazing shows, so I think it’s going to be awesome,” Flores said.

Olejniczak agreed with Flores.

“It’s gonna be good,” Olejniczak said. “I’m really excited, and everyone should come see it.”
